Scotland's Secret
18 Holes

Earlier this year, we launched our search to unearth Scotland’s best ‘hidden gems’ with the help of you, the bunkered readers.
A few months on and we’re delighted to be able to reveal the identity of the courses you have chosen as Scotland’s ‘Secret 18’.
But, before we get to that, let’s first remind ourselves of what the competition was all about.
Back in January, we sat down at bunkered HQ to discuss how we could
top our ‘Scotland’s Top 20 Golf Courses’ competition of two years ago.
It didn’t take us long to arrive at an answer because nowhere in the world has as many ‘hidden gems’ as the ‘Home of Golf’. Almost to a number, each of these courses are of quite sensational quality yet never seem to get the credit they deserve. This, in our opinion, was a score worth settling and so we launched our search to put the best of them in the limelight.
The premise was simple: we’d ask you to list your ‘Secret 18’ Scottish courses – the only exception to a course’s eligibility being whether or not it made our ‘Top 20’ list a couple of years back – and then, from all the votes gathered, a definitive final list would be calculated.
To help make your decision-making that little bit easier, we picked out some of our own favourites from across Scotland’s six areas – the South East, the Highlands, the South West, the North East, the Central Belt and the Heartlands – with some well-kent faces also chipping in with their lists.
Gavin Hastings, Andy Cameron, Alan Rough, Sam Torrance, Catriona Matthew and Steven O’Hara all contributed their top 18 to give you some food for thought when compiling your own.
And compile your own you did! We were bombarded with lists within days of launching the search – hardly surprising, right enough, when a fourball at each of the courses selected for our ‘Secret 18’ was up for grabs for the person whose entry most closely matched the final list.
