Clarke given US PGA invite
Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke will play at Whistling Straits
Darren Clarke has been given a special invitation to play in next month's US PGA Championship, the final major of the season.
It is the second year running the Northern Irishman has been handed an invite to the final major of the year.
The Dungannon player, unveiled as one of European captain Colin Montgomerie's assistants for October's Ryder Cup, will now take his place in the field at Wisconsin's Whistling Straits from August 12-15.
And the Ulsterman will have mixed memories of the course, having led after a first round 65 the last time the US PGA was staged there in 2004, before shooting a 76 in the final round to finish 13th.
"It's fantastic news," said Clarke, who finished second in the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond to earn himself a place in the Open Championship earlier this month. "I am absolutely delighted and feel very privileged and fortunate."

No great surprise there. As poor a season as he has had by his own high standards, compared to the rest of the guys ...
