Former European Tour professional David Feherty has become a US citizen after passing a citizenship test in Texas.
The native Northern Irishman moved to Dallas in the late 1990s and, after retiring from professional golf in 1997, became famous as a magazine columnist and TV golf analyst.
He currently works for US based broadcaster CBS and Golf Magazine.
Feherty celebrated the occasion with a surprise party thrown by his wife Anita. Among those to attend were his close friend Tom Watson and several wounded forces veterans.
The 51-year-old has been vocal in his support of troops fighting abroad and has organised golf tournaments to help wounded soldiers and has travelled to Iraq with other golfers.
US long-drive champion Art Sellinger has been to Iraq with Feherty and attended his official citizenship ceremony.
"It was a very special moment and emotional day for David and all of us," said Sellinger.
Bangor-born Feherty was a regular on the European Tour in 70s, 80s and 90s and clinched 10 titles during that time.
One of the highlights of his career was playing on the European Ryder Cup team that narrowly lost to the US at Kiawah Island.
