Meet Andrew Dodt

The story behind the European Tour's latest event winner

Andrew Dodt became the newest first-time winner on the European Tour after clinching the Avantha Masters in Delhi by one stroke over England's Richard Finch.

But if you are asking yourself, "who is Andrew Dost?" you're certainly not the only one.

So, we've provided you with a bit of information on the man behind the headlines, whose name you could be hearing more and more frequently from now on.

This little-known Australian is the newest member of the European Tour, after taking affiliate membership in the last few weeks.

He has played for the past two seasons on the Asian Tour and has made a big impression in just a short space of time.

He has eight top ten finishes to his name in the last two years, including a runner-up finish to Thongchai Jaidee at the Hana Bank Vietnam Masters in 2008.

In his seven previous European Tour events, Dodt's best finish had come at the Barclays Singapore Open in 2009, where he finished tied for ninth.

With the winner's cheque for €250,000, he more than doubled his previous winnings on the tour, having amassed only around €100,000 before making the trip to India.

After his maiden professional win, the 24-year-old moves into the top ten of the Race to Dubai, and he is now looking to enjoy all the privileges that being a tour winner provides.

"This week has been awesome. This has been my third week in a row and I was just hoping for a good week.

"I can't describe the feeling I have now. To win a professional tournament is absolutely huge. I've come close a few times and to actually pull it off is a dream come true.

"This win is going to open a few doors for me and I am really excited."
