European Captain Colin Montgomerie has refused to follow his American counterpart Corey Pavin by naming his vice-captains for the Ryder Cup clash at Celtic Manor in October.
Despite being nine months still to go until the transatlantic clash at Celtic Manor, Pavin announced Tom Lehman, Davis Love III, Jeff Sluman and Paul Goydos as his vice-captains.
However, Montgomerie has ruled out being drawn into choosing his assistants any time before the Open Championship at St Andrews.
"There will be nothing announced on Europe's part until at least after the British Open this year, so that's the third week in July at least before any announcement is made," he said.
"I want to give everybody an opportunity of qualifying for the team and we will know more about what the qualifying situation is around that time."
Montgomerie is thought o be considering Thomas Bjorn, Jose Maria Olazabal and Paul McGinley for the roles but is wary of coming under the same fire Nick Faldo received last time around for naming his vice-captains too early.
Faldo had named McGinley as a vice-captain at May's BMW PGA Championship in 2008, but the Irishman later declined the roles as he still had hopes of qualifying for a plying role in the European Team.
This meant Faldo named only one captain for the 2008 matches, a move for which he was widely criticised.
