Pavin backs 'golden oldie' Ryder Cup
US Ryder Cup captain wants transatlantic seniors' event
Corey Pavin has backed calls for a Ryder Cup-style event to be played between senior professional golfers.
The American captain for this year's encounter at Celtic Manor said both players and fans would benefit from the event should it go ahead.
"There's room for it and I know it's been talked about a little bit," he said.
"I think it would be a lot of fun. A lot of people would be interested in watching and a lot of players would be interested in playing.
"It would probably have a different feel but it would be very competitive - players would want to win just as bad."
Pavin's thoughts were echoed by beaten 2006 captain Tom Lehman, who insisted "something for the former greats" would be a unique attraction.
"There's only one Ryder Cup and that's for the young bucks," said the 1996 Open champion.
"But to bring back some of the golden oldies - people would love to see their long-time heroes play in a Ryder Cup-type event, as long as it didn't detract from the real thing."

Murrayshall Golf Club
The worst kept secret in golf is finally out. Tiger Woods will play in this year’s Ryder Cup, captain Corey Pavin having elected to give the embattled 14-time major winner one of his four wild cards.
No great surprise there. As poor a season as he has had by his own high standards, compared to the rest of the guys ...
