Seve forced to withdraw from Open challenge
Doctors advised three-time champion against making journey to St Andrews
Golf fans around the world have been left devastated after Seve Ballesteros was forced to pull out of the Open Championship Champions Challenge on medical advice.
The 53-year-old, who was one of the first players to commit to the event, has suffered serious health problems since suffering a brain tumour in 2008.
"I am aware that there might be people who have been preparing their trip to encourage and cheer me up," said Ballesteros, who won the second of his three Open Championship titles at St Andrews in 1984 and was looking forward to taking part in a four-hole challenge alongside other past champions on the eve of this year's tournament.
"I do not want to disappoint anyone at the last minute and, after listening to the doctors, I have taken the difficult decision not to travel to St Andrews."

The worst kept secret in golf is finally out. Tiger Woods will play in this year’s Ryder Cup, captain Corey Pavin having elected to give the embattled 14-time major winner one of his four wild cards.
No great surprise there. As poor a season as he has had by his own high standards, compared to the rest of the guys ...
