It may have been a long first day at the AT&T National Pro-am but it was a memorable one.

Play was suspended for two and half hours in the morning due to the poor weather but, contrary to the forecast, it cleared up to be a nice day.

Condi played well today alongside her partner DA Points. Unfortunately, her best holes were the ones DA was also playing well. Take the par-3 11th on Monterrey Peninsula Country Club (MPCC), for example. Condi hit her best shot of the day to 15-feet, only to watch DA hole for a birdie from 30 feet before she could putt. Hopefully tomorrow they can “ham and egg” it better to get the team deeper into red figures.

Being in the same group as Phil was truly a treat … Not only is he a fantastic golfer, he is also one of the nicest players I have ever met.

Due to darkness, our group did not finish round one, which means another long day at the office tomorrow. We resume play at MPCC at 7:45 am, and then hotfoot it over to Pebble Beach for our 10:10 second round tee time. The group has two holes left at MPCC and if we can birdie at least one of them, team Rice/Points will be doing just fine.

Being in the same group as Phil was truly a treat. His game is phenomenal and although his scorecard will say he is five under, he could easily be eight under. So many of his putts today just shaved the hole  — if I was a betting person I would be putting a wee fiver on him to win this week! Not only is he a fantastic golfer, he is also one of the nicest players I have ever met. It was also fun to be around his caddy, Bones, to talk a little about their win at Muirfield last year. It’s clear both Phil and Bones love Scotland, and why wouldn’t they?!

The weather forecast for Friday is calling for cool, showery conditions but if Condi can reach her goal of 6 pars (for net birdies) it won’t matter what the weather is doing. With Peyton Manning in the group behind us and Phil in contention, there will be a great atmosphere at Pebble Beach tomorrow.

Lets hope the rain doesn’t arrive to dampen the mood, and I don’t have to cart around umbrellas, towels, rain gear and extra gloves. Caddying is a tough job you know….
