Callaway has launched a brand new set of irons and hybrids that are built purely for distance and with that in mind, it’ll come as no surprise that they are named Big Bertha.

The irons have a hollow construction and feature new 360 Face Cup technology to make them both long and forgiving.

The distance comes from a combination of all key technologies incorporated into the design. The 360 Face Cup technology headlines the release and Callaway says it can make you hit the ball ‘up to two clubs longer’. This is possible as the cup technology makes the most of the variable thickness face and length of contact between the ball and clubface to ensure ball speeds remain high and the ball flies far.

The hollow body construction maximises performance and maintains fast ball speed across the face.

The forgiveness comes from the internal standing wave, which is positioned inside the head, and moves the centre of gravity low and forward, which offers a high MOI and creates maximum forgiveness and ball speed.

The new Big Bertha hybrids feature a Speed Frame Face which is where the fast ball speed comes from. Thin, light and robust, it keeps the speed high across the whole clubface.

Like the irons it features an internal standing wave, moving the centre of gravity low and forward for forgiveness, while also featuring Callaway’s Optifit adjustability to allow you to adjust the hosel and choose from a combination of eight different lofts and lie angles to find your optimised trajectory and shot shape.

Callaway Big Bertha irons and hybrids prices and availability

Available in eight-piece sets, with up to two hybrids per set, the Big Bertha irons are priced at £699 (steel) and £899 (graphite), while the Callaway Big Bertha hybrids have an RRP of £199. Log-on to callawaygolf.com for more information.
