GEAR SHORTS: Costco has entered the golf ball market

2016 10 Costco

Costco is selling its own brand of golf balls - and they're apparently pretty good.

That’s right. Golfers in the US revealed last week the wholesale brand has started selling 24 four-piece urethane golf balls for $30 at certain stores.

All of the balls are labelled with Costco’s in-house brand Kirkland Signature, a name which also appears on the label of alcohol, food and many other products sold in store.

Here's what we know about the tech.

According to reports, Costco says the Kirkland brand must be equal to or better than the national brands, and must offer a saving to Costco members.

We don’t know if they’re coming to the UK as yet, but they have been confirmed as USGA conforming and are produced by South Korea’s Nassau Golf Co. Ltd.

The TaylorMade takeover continues...

What a week it has been for TaylorMade.

Rory McIlroy was the highest profile Nike player to put the TaylorMade M2 driver in the bag, but he was by no means the only one.

WGC - HSBC Champions: Day Two

Paul Casey, Francesco Molinari and Haotong Li all put the M2 driver in play at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai. Ross Fisher, meanwhile, opted for the TaylorMade M1 instead of the M2.

WGC - HSBC Champions: Day Four

As well as the driver, McIlroy played with the TaylorMade M2 fairway wood.

He used a new Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage prototype shaft in both and, while it may not sound like much, it signals the first time McIlroy has changed the shaft in his fairway wood since his early years on tour.

He had previously been using a Fujikura Rombax Pro 95X shaft in his fairway woods.

Blue Bay LPGA - Day 2

And, while so many Nike players were noted for their TaylorMade switch, Michelle Wie decided to go in a different direction.

She was spotted playing in Malaysia with Ping G driver and fairway woods.
