Callaway reveals new Apex line-up

• Two new sets of irons launched – CF 16 and Pro 16

• Cup face tech features in iron design for first time

• Apex hybrid available for first time

Callaway has revealed the latest generation of its successful Apex family, with the launch of its new CF 16 and tour-inspired Pro 16 irons.

While part of the same family, the two new sets of irons are very distinct in their design with the CF 16 irons a highly technical, multi-piece construction that provides a combination of feel, control and distance, while the Pro 16 model is a modern version of a classic, one-piece forged blade.

Undoubtedly, the headline for this launch is the inclusion of Callaway’s cup face technology to the forged 1025 carbon steel frame. Both the CF 16 and Pro designs feature elements of forged 1025 carbon steel, and Dr Alan Hocknell, Callaway’s head of research and development says adding the Cup Face technology proved to be one of his team’s toughest tests to date.

“Cup face technology has resonated with a lot of golfers because it delivers visible ball speed gains, so it seemed logical to make it a feature of the new Apex range,” said Hocknell. “However, this presented our team with one of the biggest challenges we’ve ever faced.

“We have pushed our engineers and our suppliers further than ever and developed new manufacturing processes to ensure the new Apex CF 16 irons deliver all the authenticity and feel of a forging, infused with the tech benefits that deliver power to hit the ball further.”

Heavily influenced by Callaway’s staff professionals. The Apex Pro 16 irons have been designed for both pros and skilled amateurs. Its tour-inspired classic styling optimises turf interaction, while progressive Flow Weighting technology and high spin profile grooves increase the control offered over ball flight.

Hocknell continued: “Flow Weighting enables us to control CG progression without compromising on the classic shaping demanded by more discerning golfers.

“By keeping CG low in the long irons, players get a little help getting the ball in the air, while moving it higher up the face for more lofted clubs gives golfers optimum control over ball flight.”

For the first time, Callaway is also introducing a hybrid to complement its premium Apex line to offer an alternative to golfers looking for greater forgiveness at the top end of their bag.

Featuring a distinctive, tour-inspired head shape, the Apex hybrids are given added forgiveness and ‘extreme’ length by the forged cup face technology, while the centre of gravity is low to increase spin and promote a more iron-like flight. Callaway has also installed a higher apex than traditional hybrids in a move that helps to increase stopping power when hitting an approach into the green.

“This hybrid is aimed at golfers who are not necessarily looking to max out on distance, but know their yardages and want to make an accurate approach to greens from distance,” said Hocknell.

“From the feedback we’ve had from our team, we expect this hybrid to be very popular on tour.”

Callaway’s new Apex CF 16 irons and Apex Pro 16 irons will be available in store on October 30, 2015. The new Apex hybrids will be available from December 4, 2015. They will be priced as follows:
