Garmin has unveiled the latest in GPS smartwatch technology with the lightweight and ultra-thin vivoactive with built-in sports and activity tracking apps.

Comfortable to wear all day, the vivoactive works with GPS-enabled golfing, running, cycling and swimming activity tracking apps as well as many more.

Golfers can download course maps from more than 38,000 courses worldwide, which stay up-to-date automatically, to vivoactive’s golf app.

Using GPS, the vivoactive smartwatch can measure lay-up and dogleg distances, as well as distances to the front, middle and back of the green, giving you all the information you need to get it right on the course.

On top of that, users can track stats even they’re out of range from a smartphone, and can also be combined with a heart rate monitor when exercising or a bike speed sensor while out on the road.

The activity tracking app also works between workouts, monitoring progress by tracking steps, calories and distance, while helping you reach a personalised daily goal.

You don’t need to worry about battery life, either, with the vivoactive featuring up to three weeks worth in watch/activity tracking mode or up to 10 hours using GPS.

Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales, said: “Vivoactive combines signature Garmin fitness technology, such as built-in GPS, long battery life and a sunlight-readable display, in an ultra-thin smartwatch that lets users stay connected and achieve more.

“Designed to be worn all day, vivoactive can be personalised in many ways – from interchangeable bands to watch faces, apps and widgets – making it versatile, stylish and functional for your life.”

Garmin vivoactive pricing and availability

Vivoactive will be available in black or white from March 2015 and will have a suggested retail price of £199.99 with the heart rate monitor bundle costing £229.99.
