Ping iBlade irons

The long awaited release of Ping’s newest better player irons is finally here, with the S55 irons taking their final bow to be replaced by the exciting new Ping iBlade.

Already in the bags of many Ping pros including Bubba Watson, the first big change with these irons can be found in the name.

Following on from the game improvement G-iron and the more forgiving better player i-iron releases in recent times, you would not have been alone if you were expecting this latest launch to also remove the number and shape up as the new S-irons.

Ping has taken a different route, however, and has made the Ping iBlade range available for pre-order from today.

Ping iBlade – the tech

While many better player irons are forged, Ping has found great performance success in its precision casting. The Ping iBlade is no different and the brand says the result is the ‘softest, purest feel ever in a Ping iron’.

That feel comes through a combination of the soft stainless steel head and an elastomer insert that sits behind the face. Ping says the insert dampens the vibrations more effectively, giving the softer feel and a pleasing sound.

“The iBlade has a simple shape, clean cavity design and incredible feel.” – John A. Solheim

The Ping iBlade also has you covered for distance. Its face is half the thickness of the S55, creating more ball speed for more distance throughout the set.

Forgiveness is there, too. In fact, the Ping iBlade is the brand’s most forgiving blade-style irons to date. That increase can be put down to the larger tungsten weights in the toe of every head, improving both the stability and the forgiveness it offers.

Everything about the Ping iBlade design has been tailored to what the better player looks for. Ping has made the top rail thinner, the offset minimal and the leading edge straight to ensure it appeals to the eye of its target player.

The sole width is remaining the same as it was in the S55, giving better players the confidence to work the ball both ways.

The design is completed by the hydropearl chrome finish that repels water for more control and has been designed to help minimise fliers from wet conditions and lies in the rough.

Ping iBlade – what Ping says…

The iBlade project was a fun challenge for our engineers,” said John A. Solheim, Ping’s chairman and CEO. “They approached the design with the mindset of what the best players in the world demand and need from their irons.

“They incorporated tour player feedback and created a beautiful club that delivers amazing performance. The iBlade has a simple shape, clean cavity design and incredible feel. It’s already our most-played iron on tour as players around the world have quickly converted to the new design.”
