PXG | JAMES HAHN

PGA Tour star James Hahn has revealed exactly how he became a PXG staffer, and it’s not how you would imagine.

This time last year, PXG had one solitary player on its tour staff. Now, it has 12 across the PGA Tour, Champions Tour and LPGA Tour and Hahn has revealed his relationship with them all started by chance.

He lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, the same place where PXG has its headquarters, and practices at Scottsdale National. It’s also where Hahn’s good friend Graham DeLaet receives coaching from PXG-sponsored coach Gabriel Hjertstedt.

“I’ve gotten to know Gabriel very well. I questioned him about the golf clubs and how good they are,” said Hahn. “I actually hit the golf clubs he had at that time.

“It was good. I liked the equipment, loved the driver, loved the 3-wood, and then from there I had asked him who was in charge of the tour department and if they were looking to add other guys.”

From there, Hahn called Matt Rollins, the tour rep for PXG. Rollins used to work for Ping and the pair already knew each other from casual talk on the range.

Rollins built him a set of irons to try out and it all snowballed from there to the point where Hahn signed on the dotted line.

The ability to drop in whenever he felt it was needed to get his equipment dialled in was a big bonus for Hahn. The people behind the scenes also sold him on joining PXG.

“Mike Nicolette is one of the best in the business,” he concluded. “He’s helped me dial in the driver, the 3-wood and the irons.

“The people that they have behind the scenes have made the transition very easy for me and comfortable enough for me to put new clubs in without blinking an eye. It’s been a great relationship.”
