TaylorMade has announced the release of a brand new golf ball designed specifically to help amateurs.

The new Project (a) golf balls, where the ‘a’ stands for amateur, have been created to give amateur golfers more spin and better performance into and around the green.

According to Dean Snell, TaylorMade’s vice president of golf ball R&D, the brand’s tests have shown that amateur golfers miss the pin by an average of 35 yards on a 150-yard approach shot, and therefore don’t need the extra spin given by a tour ball.

The Project (a) gives more spin on mid irons, short irons and shots around the green; resulting in more control and increased scoring chances where it matters most.

Its performance is rooted in TaylorMade’s Soft Tech; a cast urethane cover that is the brand’s softest and most durable to date. Also used in TaylorMade’s Tour Preferred franchise, the Soft Tech gives even softer feel around the greens than any of the brand’s previous offerings.

“Having gathered data from many player types including Tour pros, it’s no secret that amateurs need help generating spin and stopping the ball on the green,” said Dean Snell, vice president of golf ball R&D.

“Our tests indicate that amateurs miss the pin by an average of 35 yards on a 150 yard approach shot. Playing Project (a) gives amateur golfers a better chance at stopping the ball on the green, creating better scoring opportunities
