Leading UK golf retailer American Golf has opened its National Academy, with football stars Shay Given, Gareth Barry and Kevin Kilbane on hand to cut the ribbon.

Situated at High Legh Park GC near Knutsford, the academy boasts state-of-the-art facilities which are ideal for any golfer looking to improve their game.

With PGA professionals in store, some of the UK’s best coaches on the range and the latest golf equipment, the academy provides a perfect environment and Stoke City goalkeeper Given is suitably impressed.

“Having the best facilities, the right coaches and the latest technology will help anyone who is looking to improve their game, whatever the sport,” said Stoke City goalkeeper Given. “The American Golf National Academy provides all those things in one place and gives golfers of all abilities a great chance to improve.

“Now I’m back in the North West I’ll certainly be looking to make the most of the facility and knock a few shots off my handicap!”

As well as the famous faces of the footballing world heading down to the academy’s grand opening, it has also been visited by a rising star of golf in recent weeks, with Open Silver Medal winner Jordan Niebrugge heading to the facility to see resident coach Damian Taylor.

“I had Jordan in here just before final qualifying to fine tune a few things and he’s had the best couple of weeks golf of his life,” explained Taylor. “Working with the team at the academy has been great and the facilities on offer in the coaching bays are second to none.
