With the Ryder Cup on everyone’s mind, the Belfry, a venue synonymous with contest, is running an #OnThisDay social media campaign to rekindle memories of the resorts iconic moments.

The campaign began on September 20 and will run to September 29 to align with the dates for the 1989, 1993, and 2002 Ryder Cup matches. The club also hosted the 1985 match which Europe won by five points.

Some of the most memorable moments from these contests include, September 26, 1993 when the first Swedish player to compete in the Ryder Cup, Joakim Haeggman, claimed a memorable point against John Cook.

And September 29, 2002 when Phillip Price holed a 25ft putt on the 16th to snatch a sensational victory against world No.2 at the time, Phil Mickelson.

By posting their memories on Twitter, golfers will be able to win a host of daily and overall prizes.

Daily winners will receive Belfry merchandise from its golf shop for the best response for each date. All posts will also be entered into a prize draw to win tee times across two of the Belfry’s golf courses; the Brabazon and the PGA National.

“The Ryder Cup is a special event, unlike any other golf tournament, and creates long-lasting memories.” – Ian Knox

Director of golf at the Belfry, Ian Knox, hopes the competition will have fans casting their mind back to some of the Belfry’s greatest moments, and help golfers get involved with the West Midlands resort.

“We are extremely proud of our Ryder Cup history and heritage here at the Belfry and it has been key theme for all of the investment and developments across the resort,” said Knox.

“The Ryder Cup is a special event, unlike any other golf tournament, and creates long-lasting memories for any golf fan.

“With this likely to be the most interactive Ryder Cup of all time, we wanted to capitalise upon the scheduling of this year’s matches, and run a social media campaign encouraging people to share their memories from three of the four matches that we have hosted.”

To be in with a chance of winning, follow the Belfry on Twitter on @TheBelfryHotel and post your memories using the hashtag #OnThisDay.
