• Bubba Watson reveals his highlight of the 2015 PGA Tour season
• And surprisingly, it isn’t about stand-out duo Spieth and Day
• But he does commend the pair for their fantastic seasons

BUBBA WATSON

Bubba Watson has revealed that his highlight of the PGA Tour season for him was being branded ‘overrated’ along with fellow American Rickie Fowler.

While Fowler and Ian Poulter topped the anonymous poll of their fellow PGA Tour professionals with 24% each, two-time Masters winner Watson was third on the list with 12% and relished the fact that good friend Fowler had gone on to win three times – at the Players Championship, the Scottish Open and the Deutsche Bank Championship – since its results were made public.

“Rickie keeps joking about it so I joke about it, being overrated,” said Bubba Watson. “I was on that list too. I’m fine with it, you can call me overrated all you want. But Rickie, I don’t know how you could say he’s overrated as he’s done some great things.

“Now to come out and win, I think that’s the story for me” – Bubba Watson

“The record he set in the majors in 2014 was pretty special. I know he didn’t win, but to top five in every major – I wish I could top five in every major – and now to come out and win, I think that’s the story for me.”

But, unsurprisingly, the 36-year-old couldn’t talk about the best of the PGA Tour season without mentioning stand-out performers Jordan Spieth and Jason Day, who are set to go head-to-head for the Player of the Year award after this week’s FedEx Cup finale at East Lake.

“When you look at what Jordan did, behind the 18th green at Augusta I told his whole family that I’m so glad he waited a year to perform at a high level so I could win,” said Watson. “Then he missed the cut and still became No.1 in the world. I wish I could do that. So there’s some funny and good stories.

“And at the same time Jason Day, being friends, Dash is always spending time with Caleb. Our families are always together so watching him perform with his background story and upbringing to be where he is now is pretty amazing.”

Bubba Watson tees off alongside Open champion Zach Johnson in the Tour Championship at 1.40pm local time .
