DUSTIN JOHNSON

Dustin Johnson moved into the top 10 of the world rankings after securing his ninth PGA Tour win at the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral.

The 30-year-old shot a three-under final round of 69 to see off J.B. Holmes and Bubba Watson to become the eighth player to win multiple WGC titles, after his first victory at the HSBC Champions in 2013.

The tournament was only Johnson’s fifth since an enforced six-month absence, with performances since his return showing he was capable of getting quickly back to winning ways.

“It’s been a tough road but a lot of great things have come out of it” – Dustin Johnson

Despite missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in his first event back and at last week’s Honda Classic, he had also shown some form, finishing T4 at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, while he also lost out in a three-way play-off to James Hahn at the Northern Trust Open.

Speaking to Sky Sports after his victory, Dustin Johnson, who is now world No.7, said: “This win means everything to me. Obviously it’s been a tough road but a lot of great things have come out of it, like my son and me and Paulina are doing well too.

“I knew I was really good but I knew that there was something missing. I’ve been working hard and it feels awesome to get that win. All my wins have been good but this one is my best for sure.”

Runner-up Holmes, who blew away the field on the opening day with a ten-under round of 62, finished one shot behind Johnson, with Watson, who had led by two shots heading into the back nine, a further shot back.

World No.1 Rory McIlroy came T9 after a final round of 72, and it was a good week for Scotland’s Marc Warren, who recorded his fifth consecutive top 25 finish by coming T17, with a tournament score of one-over par.
