1 Irons aren’t just for the golf course

“Always press, steam or iron whatever you’re going to wear because, even if it’s just an ‘okay’ outfit, it can be made to look really good if you just go the extra mile and treat it like it’s something really special.”

2 Mix and match – up to a point

“Colour-coordinate your outfits. Don’t mismatch your colours and, particularly, different palettes of colours. If you’re going out wearing too many different types of blue, for example, then that’s just plain wrong. Make sure everything is carefully chosen so that it matches up nicely from head to toe.”

3 Belts go with shoes

“If you’re going to choose a belt that’s a similar colour to your shoes, make sure that it matches. ‘Close enough’ isn’t good enough. If they don’t match, trust me, it’s going to stand out like a sore thumb and really isn’t going to look good.”

4 Loose is lousy

“Baggy clothes are a complete ‘no no’. Nobody wants to wear clothes that fit too tight to their bodies, which is fair enough. That, though, doesn’t mean that you go the opposite way and wear something that is too loose-fitting. That sort of styling hasn’t really been seen on tour for a long time because people seem to understand their fits a lot better. People have learnt that there are different cuts of clothing available and have a better knowledge now of what suits them.”

5 Above all, be confident

“Having confidence in what you’re wearing is crucial if you’re going to pull off a particular look. That doesn’t mean going out and trying something daring just for the sake of it but, if you’re going to wear something a little different, you need to have the confidence to back it up. And remember the old saying: look good, feel good, play great.”
