‘I’m a top-five player in the world’

“I have a lot of confidence in my game.  It’s one of those things that you build confident by how hard you work, and you know, I feel like I’m one of the hardest workers out here and it definitely shows; I have three wins in 14 starts, especially in a field like this, to go wire‑to‑wire.  It’s just one of those things that I feel like with how hard I’ve worked, I mean, I’m working my way up to become a Top‑5 player in the world.  But the thing is, I just going to take a little time in the fact that I haven’t been on the PGA TOUR for very long.

“My swing coach, my agents, my wife, and my whole team behind my scenes; they know how good I am and they believe I’m a top‑five player in the world.  And I believe it, as well.”

Those were the words of Patrick Reed following his win at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. An outcry ensued on Twitter with many shocked that someone so young should claim he’s so good having only just started his second season on the PGA Tour.

Sitting 20^th in the Official World Golf Ranking after his win at Doral, does he have the potential to make it into the top-5 in the world rankings? Is his confidence misplaced? Is there really anything wrong with having a bit of confidence in his own ability?
