• Jordan Spieth blows away the field to win in Hawaii
• Reaches a 30-under-par total for an eight-shot margin
• Brushes off comparisons to Tiger Woods at his age

JORDAN SPIETH

Jordan Spieth says he ‘doesn’t deserve’ to be compared to Tiger Woods despite joining the 14-time major champion as one of only three players in history to have seven PGA Tour wins to their name before the age of 23.

The 22-year-old blew away the field at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions to win by eight shots from Patrick Reed in second place, finishing on 30-under-par, with his six-under-par 67 on Sunday his ‘worst’ round of the week.

The facts behind Spieth’s seventh win

• His 30-under-par total was the second lowest score to par by a winner of a 72-hole event in PGA Tour history;
• His seventh PGA Tour win since beginning of 2013 is the most of any player in that span;
• Has a career scoring average of 67.0 on the Plantation Course at Kapalua;
• Led the field in strokes gained putting, strokes gained tee-to-green, putting average, par-4 scoring, par-5 scoring and number of birdies and eagles;
• On the par-5s, Spieth had two eagles, 12 birdies and two pars.

Speaking after his round on comparisons with Woods, Jordan Spieth said: “I just think it’s premature, but I’ll say that probably my entire career. There’s just such an age gap that I understand there are going to be comparison. I hope they continue to be there, that means I’m still being in the same ballpark as he is.

“But at the same time I grew up watching. I know what he did and I just find it hard to believe that it can be matched. I know we’re in a position now where we’re actually maybe ahead of the curve age-wise. But, boy, it would be hard to believe I could be compared to him the entire course of a career.

“I hope that’s the case, and I’m certainly going to strive for it. But what he has done for the game of golf is something special and I just don’t feel I deserve to necessarily be compared to him right now, but maybe I do. I don’t know. Personally I don’t think so.”
