Basketball legend and golf fanatic Michael Jordan could soon have his very own private golf course.

The 53-year-old billionaire, one of the most recognisable icons in sporting history after winning six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls, is moving forward with plans for an ultra-exclusive private club in south-east Florida.

According to a Treasure Coast Newspapers report, Jordan – who is worth an estimated $1.14 billion – would be the principal owner, while he has another 25 investors stumping up $1m apiece for the project.

It’s believed it will cost $15m-$20m to build the course, which will be built on 227 acres in Hobe Sound near Jupiter, where the likes of Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas live.

Early indications are that the exclusive golf club would be open to just 180 members, according to a project description submitted to the county by the developer’s representative, Lucido & Associates.

The plan is for ‘a very unique golf course in Martin County unlike none other’, Morris Crady, of Lucido & Associates, told Martin County staff at a meeting Thursday. Local authorities will vote on the proposed golf course at some point in the future.
