European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie has revealed that he has already pencilled a list of the 12 players who he would like to see make his team for next year’s match with the USA at the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales.

Talking to the media ahead of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, Monty said: “I’ve pencilled 12 names and I’ve put it in a drawer at home. It will be interesting to see how close the team come out to that particular 12. A number of people do this before qualification starts and, yes, there are a few rookies on my list.”

The Scot added, though, that his list could change between now and next year’s team being decided.

“It’s amazing how a year is a long time in any sport, in any life, and I think that it will be interesting to see how close it comes to that particular team,” he said. “I wish them all success. The Ryder Cup is our Olympic Games, if you like.”
