US OPEN | OAKMONT

After a visit to Oakmont before the FedEx St Jude Classic last week, Phil Mickelson described the US Open venue as ‘the hardest golf course we’ve ever played’.

And, with a lot of the field now on-site at Oakmont, various social media posts from players over the weekend would suggests that the five-time major winner’s assessment isn’t far from the truth.

Among those highlighting just how tough the course is include Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas, Keegan Bradley and 2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell, showcasing its punishing rough and lightning fast greens.

Exhibit A – The green speeds

First up, Rickie Fowler posted this on Snapchat…

Maximilian Kieffer, playing in his first US Open, must be wondering what he’s let himself in for.

Yes this will be a challenge! #usopen #oakmont

Exhibit B – The rough

Justin Thomas dropped a ball to show just how thick it is…

Rough short of 17 green… Yeah, I'd say Oakmont is ready @usopengolf

And golf writer Doug Ferguson had some trouble off the 17th green, as filmed by 2010 champ Graeme McDowell.

So, what score do we think is going to win this week then?
