Paul Lawrie Match Play

PAUL LAWRIE MATCH PLAY

Are you heading down to the Aberdeen Asset Management Paul Lawrie Match Play tomorrow? Here are the FIVE best ties you need to be following at Archerfield Links.

There are 32 matches in total tomorrow, with the first starting at 8am right through to the final tee off time at 3.05pm – but we’ve whittled it down to five that you need to have your eyes on.

9.45am – Matthew Southgate v Kristoffer Broberg

Since being reduced to tears after finishing fourth at the Irish Open, Southgate has since finished T11 at the French Open and T12 at the Open Championship. He’s therefore sure to be an incredibly tough opponent for Broberg, who scooped €1m for his BMW Masters win last November but hasn’t had a top 20 since the Malaysian Open in February.

10.05am – Richie Ramsay v David Howell

Twenty minutes later is arguably the best tie of the morning wave with Ramsay taking on David Howell. Ramsay hit form at the Scottish Open while Howell, who finished third in last year’s Paul Lawrie Match Play at Murcar Links, is sure to provide a stern test for the Scot being a two-time Ryder Cup player in the wins of 2004 and 2006.

145th Open Championship - Day Three

12.40pm – Lucas Bjerregaard v Paul Lawrie

Well, host Paul Lawrie’s match had to be included, right? Lawrie is in wretched form having not shot a round in the 70s since February and he admitted to bunkered.co.uk yesterday that he isn’t 100% fit. Bjerregaard, meanwhile, isn’t in the greatest form but Lawrie is wary of being up against ‘one of the European Tour’s brightest stars’.

2.15pm – Matt Fitzpatrick v Thomas Bjorn

This is the big one. The wannabe Ryder Cup rookie against the Ryder Cup stalwart and vice-captain for the upcoming match at Hazeltine. Fitzpatrick believes he’s ‘struggled’ this year despite holding an automatic berth for the Ryder Cup – and what better way to enhance your credentials by taking down the Dane at Archerfield. Will be a fascinating encounter, for sure.

Alex Noren

2.55pm – Alex Noren v Scott Jamieson

The Scottish Open champion has been a busy man over the past few weeks, playing all four rounds in both the Open Championship and last week’s US PGA Championship and Jamieson, who is currently sitting way down the Race to Dubai in 138th place, will be looking to seize on any sign of tiredness from the Swede.
