• Phil Mickelson offers cheeky put down to his US teammates
• He’s in no doubt he’ll be playing in the 2018 Ryder Cup
• If so, he’d have most appearances in Ryder Cup history

PHIL MICKELSON | RYDER CUP

There’s no way Phil Mickelson is ready to relinquish his Ryder Cup playing duties – and he offered a cheeky put down of his US teammates to prove it.

The 46-year-old has never had to rely on a captain’s pick in his 11 straight appearances and, should he play at Le Golf National in 2018, he would overtake Sir Nick Faldo’s record to sit alone on 12 starts.

He would also become the fourth oldest player in US Ryder Cup history, behind Raymond Floyd (1993 and 1991) and Jay Haas (2004), and fully sees himself teeing it up there.

“It’s been 22 years since there have been ten Americans that have been able to beat me so I don’t know why it would stop now,” said Phil Mickelson in his typically brash manner.

He added that, while clearly believing he’ll still be good enough to play in the biennial match in Paris, he is also striving to do something he has never done before – win a Ryder Cup in Europe.

“I plan on being on the team in France and absolutely one of my goals is to play in France because I’ve never been on a winning Ryder Cup team over in Europe.

“I want to go win a Ryder Cup over there and I want to be part of that as a player.”

Mickelson scored two-and-a-half points out of a possible four at Hazeltine as USA won the Ryder Cup for the first time since 2008.
