ANTHONY KIM

Three-time PGA Tour winner and 2008 Ryder Cup-winning player Anthony Kim has resurfaced – three years since his last media interview.

Speaking to AP’s Doug Ferguson, the 30-year-old, who hasn’t played a PGA Tour event since suffering an achilles tendon injury in June 2012, says he hasn’t played a full round of golf for nearly 18 months and when questioned about a possible return to the tour – where he has a medical exemption of 16 starts to earn $613,550 to regain his card – he said he still wasn’t in the physical shape required to return.

“I’ve had six or seven surgeries in the last three-and-a-half years” – Anthony Kim

“Here’s what I’m telling you today,” he said. “I’m going to step away from the game for a little while and get my body pieced together. Instead of going from an Achilles injury to try to go 180 mph and not fixing the problem … I’ve got so much ground to make up from injuries — rotator cuff, labrum, spinal fusion, hand injury. I’ve had six or seven surgeries in the last three-and-a-half years.”

The American, who claimed 2.5 points in USA’s last Ryder Cup win under the captaincy of Paul Azinger at Valhalla in 2008, described his health as a ‘six’ on a scale of one to ten as he is currently coping with thoracic outlet syndrome, although he has hopes of giving golf one last chance.

Asked whatever happened to Anthony Kim, his response: “Ask me in two years.”

Here’s a clip of Anthony Kim’s breakthrough year in 2008…
