Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy rounded off his fourth victory in his last seven events then insisted he can keep his phenomenal form going until he goes for the career Grand Slam at Augusta in April.

Rory McIlroy was speaking after he secured the Dubai Desert Classic title for the second time in his career, finishing three shots ahead of Sweden’s Alex Noren at the Emirates Golf Club.

“It’s great to win and coming off a good performance in Abu Dhabi, as well, I’ve got some confidence and momentum on my side heading into the next couple of months,” said Rory McIlroy.

“I’ll keep it ticking over. I don’t mind that the Masters is still a couple of months away. I feel like I can keep this run of form going, and there’s no reason why I shouldn’t

“I’m comfortable with my game, I’m happy with how I’m swinging it and it’s just a matter of keeping on top of things and not getting complacent and working hard.

Rory McIlroy will now head to Dublin where the next phase of his court case with his former management company, Horizon Sports, will take place this week, before heading to the States to prepare for his next event, the Honda Classic.

Elsewhere in the event, Stephen Gallacher put up an impressive defence of the title that he has won in the past two years, finishing on his own in third place, and the Scot is pleased with his start to the season so far.

He said: “It was a good week. I’m delighted with it. It was tough to chase the world No. 1 from so far back, we were kind of playing for second place, so I’m delighted with my performance.

“I made a conscious effort not to do too much in the winter. I wanted to come back and pick up from where I left off last season after having such a good season. It’s going to plan so far.”
