• Rory McIlroy roars to FedEx Cup glory at East Lake
• The 27-year-old beat Ryan Moore at the fourth play-off hole
• “It ranks right up there,” said the Northern Irishman
Rory McIlroy hailed one of his greatest achievements outside of his four major titles after an inspired performance helped him take down Ryan Moore to win the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup.
Playing alongside Moore, the 27-year-old eagled the 16th to roar into contention at East Lake and force a play-off against American duo Moore and Kevin Chappell.
And, after Chappell was eliminated at the first extra hole, it took three more before Rory McIlroy sealed the title for the $10m payout.
“It’s very satisfying” – Rory McIlroy
“It’s up there,” said Rory McIlroy. “With the golf that I needed to produce today to win, it ranks right up there.
“To shoot 66, 64 on the weekend to win the Tour Championship and ultimately win the FedExCup, that ranks up there with just some of my best performances on the golf course regardless of tournament.

“So to finally knock this one off and sort of check this off the list, I guess, it ranks up there. I mean, obviously, the majors are set apart and they’re very different, It’s very satisfying, and I’m just happy to have my name on that trophy.”
Rory McIlroy’s FedEx Cup glory comes a day after NBC commentator Johnny Miller called the European Ryder Cup team the ‘weakest in many years’ – despite having the FedEx Cup winner, Open champion, Masters champion and Olympic champion.
“This is the year not only could the US win, they could win by like five points” – Johnny Miller
“I do believe the Euros have got, at least on paper, the worst team they’ve had in many years,” said Miller. “I just think with all those rookies.. when you lose Ian Poulter it’s like tearing your heart out.
“I think this is the year not only could the US win, they could win by like five points.”
