Ryder Cup hopeful Stephen Gallacher returned to Bathgate Golf Club for an evening dedicated to charity, which saw Quarriers, an official charity of The 2014 Ryder Cup, receive a donation of £2,000.

Gallacher presented the charity with the donation as part of the club’s participation in The 2014 Ryder Cup Charity Challenge. The Challenge is open to golf clubs across Scotland, with participating clubs receiving general admission Season Passes for the Match at Gleneagles in exchange.

Bathgate Golf Club’s Ryder Cup fundraising

Clubs and members pulled out all the stops to raise the funds for Quarriers, the club’s chosen charity for the event. Fundraising activities included a whisky and wine tasting event, raffle and a competition across the club’s opening tournaments where the best aggregate scorer received season passes. The club will also have tickets up for grabs at its 25th Pro-am, and a special members match taking place in September.

How will the money be spent?

The money raised will help Quarriers’ pioneering Coaching for Life initiative. This offers support and guidance for young people who are facing disadvantages such as homelessness, leaving care, emotional trauma and neglected education.

As well as the Quarriers presentation, the event was also in support of Stephen’s own charity, the Stephen Gallacher Foundation.

Speaking about the club’s fundraising efforts, Gallacher said: “It was a fantastic gesture for the club to host the evening and I was delighted to have been a part of it.

“The club has always been extremely supportive of the Stephen Gallacher Foundation and it’s great to see it backing The 2014 Ryder Cup Charity Challenge as well. I know the money raised by the Bathgate Golf Club members is going to a very worthy cause.”

Gerard Flannigan, secretary of Bathgate Golf Club, is hopeful the club can continue to donate to Quarriers.

“We’ve all had a great time raising the money for Quarriers.” – secretary of Bathgate Golf Club

“As soon as we received the application form for The 2014 Ryder Cup Charity Challenge we decided we had to take part.

“The 2014 Ryder Cup Charity Challenge is a unique way in which all the members at Bathgate can continue the association the club has had with the trophy while raising money for such a good cause.

“We’ve all had a great time raising the money for Quarriers and we look forward to continue supporting the charity in the future.”
