• Legacy Trophy to be played at Gleneagles and Blairgowrie this year
• Will commemorate the success of the Ryder Cup last September
• Billy Murray: “The Legacy Trophy aims to prolong that success”
Millions of golf fans young and old watched the drama of the Ryder Cup unfold last September – now you have the chance to play both the Ryder Cup and Junior Ryder Cup venues in the recently launched Legacy Trophy, sponsored by Highland Spring.
A two-day, two-round stableford competition, the Legacy Trophy will be played over the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles and Blairgowrie’s Rosemount course with the prize being donated by Ryder Cup Europe. The format is 36-hole stableford, and takes place on September 6-7 this year.
Billy Murray, Gleneagles’ golf marketing manager, said the resort was delighted to join forces with Blairgowrie to stage the new event.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for golfers to come back to Perthshire” – Billy Murray
“As many people will be aware, 2014 was an incredible year for golf in the county and for Scotland as a whole,” said Murray. “The Legacy Trophy aims to prolong that success for years to come. It’s a wonderful opportunity for golfers to come back to Perthshire and experience playing the two venues and, hopefully, win one of the great prizes on offer.”
As well as the Legacy Trophy, there will also be a prize fund of £2,000 up for grabs with the winner taking home £500 for their efforts.
Douglas Cleeton, Blairgowrie’s managing secretary, believes it is the perfect way to honour what is probably ‘the most exciting year in golf Perth & Kinross is ever likely to have’.
“With the Ryder Cup and Junior Ryder Cups having been played at Gleneagles and Blairgowrie respectively, we have been able to create a partnership that will be long lasting and offer all golfers a great opportunity to compete over the championship courses,” said Cleeton.
