In the end, Rory McIlroy didn’t make it to the big fight between Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao.
After making no secret of the fact that he’d do anything to be in Las Vegas, even if he was still in the WGC-Cadillac Match Play, his match with Paul Casey on Saturday went to extra holes and still hadn’t been decided by the time darkness curtailed play.
So, instead, the world No.1 sold his tickets and had to make do with watching it in the media centre at TPC Harding Park and, if you watched the fight, it was probably a blessing in disguise for McIlroy, who went on to win the tournament.
He posted on his Facebook page:

But despite McIlroy’s publicised absence from the ‘biggest fight of the century’, there were still plenty more of the world’s best golfers to be seen at the MGM Grand, with one taking McIlroy’s ticket…
