Your final serving of tasty morsels
delivered straight from the Open

Empty Phil

Defending champion Phil Mickelson was clearly sad at having to give back the Claret Jug. Asked where that ’empty spot is’ that the trophy was on for a year, the five-time major champ replied: ‘My heart.’ Aww.

Wood you believe it?

You’ve got to love Chris Wood’s honesty. After shooting a superb 65 to vault up the leaderboard on the final day of the Open, he said: “You should have seen me the first three days. I couldn’t see a 75 let alone a 65.”

Only one loser here…

There’s mean-spirited and then there are tweets like this from an American reporter early into the final round.

You stay classy, mate.

Elementary for dear Watson

Tom Watson, 64, shot a 68 in the final round of his penultimate Open. What odds he beats his age on his farewell appearance in the Open at St Andrews next year?

Practice, practice, practice

Ian Poulter, who missed the cut on Friday, decided not to bother watching the final round. A Twitter user asked him why. Check out the Englishman’s reply…

Simple, indeed!

(Un)lucky number seven

How tough was the seventh hole this week? Statistically the hardest hole on the course, it yielded just 30 birdies. Which is three less than the number of doubles or worse that it clocked up.

Orange is the new… clementine?!

Overheard near the putting green…

“Which one is Fowler?”

“The one in the tangerine top.”

“Tangerine? More like clementine, if you ask me.”

What’s wrong with orange?

Sam the man

Who’s that taking a selfie at Royal Liverpool on day four? Only Hollywood A-lister Samuel L. Jackson…
