TIGER WOODS

Tiger Woods has landed a big new sponsor ahead of his return to competitive golf at this week’s Hero World Challenge.

According to ESPN, the 14-time major winner will debut a logo for drinks company Monster Energy on his bag – with agent Mark Steinberg confirming that Woods would have a new sponsor in the Bahamas but refusing to say who it was.

The sponsorship from Monster would add to his current deals with Nike, Hero, Kowa, Upper Deck and Rolex and would signal the seventh logo he’s had on his bag in his professional career – following on from Titleist, Buick, AT&T, Nike, Fuse Science and MusclePharm.

Coca-Cola owns 16.7% of Monster, which is second in market share in the energy drink space behind Red Bull, and taking on Woods would be its first foray into golf.

Up until now, most of Monster’s sponsorship deals have been with athletes in motorsport and extreme sports, including Formula One champion Nico Rosberg and his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

Other athletes include legendary Moto GP star Valentino Rossi and Speedway stars Greg Hancock, Tai Woffinden and Chris Holder.

Woods previously had a deal with Gatorade, which is owned by Coke competitor PepsiCo, but they cut ties in 2010 after his admission of his extra-marital affairs. AT&T and Accenture also ended their deals with Woods at that time.
