TIGER WOODS

Tiger Woods has announced he has split up with girlfriend Lindsey Vonn after almost three years together.

The pair took to the internet to announce their mutual separation, citing busy schedules in their respective sports as a defining reason behind the decision to go their separate ways.

Tiger Woods, who revealed his summer playing schedule last week, said in a statement on his official website: “Lindsey and I have mutually decided to stop dating. I have great admiration, respect and love for Lindsey and I’ll always cherish our time together.

“Unfortunately, we lead very hectic lives and are both competing in demanding sports” – Tiger Woods

“She has been amazing with Sam and Charlie and my entire family. Unfortunately, we lead very hectic lives and are both competing in demanding sports. It’s difficult to spend time together.”

Vonn was Woods’ first public relationship since the 14-time major champion’s multiple infidelities were exposed in 2009, which rocked the world of golf and saw the end of his relationship with Elin Nordegren.

The pair met at a charity event in 2012 and went public with their relationship in March 2013. Vonn, 30, an Olympic gold medallist skier, appeared at a number of Woods’ events that year, including his victory at the Players Championship and also at the Masters, the US Open and the Open Championship.

Sharing her thoughts on the break-up, Vonn said to the one million followers on her Facebook page: “After nearly three years together, Tiger and I have mutually decided to end our relationship. I will always cherish the memories that we’ve created together.

“I will always admire and respect Tiger” – Lindsey Vonn

“Unfortunately, we both lead incredibly hectic lives that force us to spend a majority of our time apart. I will always admire and respect Tiger. He and his beautiful family will always hold a special place in my heart.”

The split comes as quite a surprise as Tiger Woods and Vonn were in the public domain most recently during the Masters just four weeks ago, where Woods competed in the par-3 competition for the first time since 2004. Vonn accompanied the 39-year-old for the whole of the competition, along with his two children Sam, seven, and Charlie, six.

The Masters announced Woods’ comeback to tournament golf after ten weeks away to work on his game and last week, he announced his summer schedule leading up to the US PGA Championship.

Woods plans to play the Players Championship this week, the Memorial Tournament (June 4-7), US Open (June 18-21), Greenbrier Classic (July 2-5), the Open (July 16-19) and the Quicken Loans National (July 30-2).
