Tiger Woods has announced he will not be teeing it up at the US Open or the Quicken Loans National.

Yesterday evening, the 14-time major winner released a statement on his website saying he still ‘wasn’t physically ready’ to return to competitive action after two back surgeries in autumn.

“While I continue to work hard on getting healthy, I am not physically ready to play in this year’s US Open and the Quicken Loans National,” said Tiger Woods. “I am making progress, but I’m not yet ready for tournament competition.

Quicken Loans National - Final Round

“I will be hosting and attending my foundation’s tournament, the Quicken Loans National, at Congressional. It’s the tenth year of our tournament, and we continue to support the community, the military and the programmes of the Tiger Woods Foundation.”

Woods hasn’t played competitively since August 2015 at the Wyndham Championship, where he finished T10.

Anticipation had been building in terms of a return date after the 40-year-old was filmed hitting 300-yard drives at a Junior event in South Carolina in April. But that hope was brought back down to earth a few weeks later when he hit three consecutive 100-yard wedge shots into water.
