SPENCER LEVIN | US OPEN

Forget Jordan Spieth’s club toss on Thursday, this is what you call a meltdown.

And it’s difficult to blame world No.202 Spencer Levin for this.

The 32-year-old American, playing in only his fourth US Open – his best finish was T13 as low amateur in 2004 – had fought back against Oakmont after an opening round 73 and was three-under-par for his second round at the turn.

However, on the front nine, it all went wrong. Levin made four bogeys in the first five holes and, after gaining a bit of momentum with a birdie on the par-3 sixth, he was faced with this shot on the seventh fairway, only to see his ball land short of the green. Here’s his reaction:

Levin went on to bogey that hole and the ninth for a 40 on the front nine to finish on five-over-par. Will it be enough to make the cut? We’ll soon find out.
