Scottish rock band Twin Atlantic have described the chance to play at the Ryder Cup Gala concert as ‘unbelievable’, in an exclusive chat with bunkered.co.uk.

Twin Atlantic lead singer Sam McTrusty and lead guitarist Barry McKenna were at The Carrick this morning for the official unveiling of the full music line-up for the 2014 Ryder Cup Gala concert to be staged at the SSE Hydro two days before the Ryder Cup kicks off at Gleneagles.

Twin Atlantic will be joined at the event by Midge Ure, as well as Texas, Amy MacDonald and Chic’s Nile Rodgers who is set to perform with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at the special one-off event.

“We’re going for a slightly different approach as to how we’re going to play,” Sam McTrusty, lead singer of Twin Atlantic

For McTrusty and McKenna, the event is a dream come true, bringing together their two main passions in life, music and golf.

McKenna said: “It’s a bit of a surreal ideal coming together of our two passions in life. It’s quite a rare thing for the golf world to meet the music world, so when we were asked to be part of it, it was a no brainer for us.

“We both used to sit up and watch the late night Ryder Cup footage on the BBC in years gone by, so to be part of the opening gala the year it’s in Scotland, it’s unbelievable.”

McTrusty added: “I literally interrupted our manager and said ‘Yes’ before she finished the sentence. It was crazy.”

Twin Atlantic have decided to take a different approach to their set for the night and have put a lot of thought into how it will pan out as they get ready to play at the SSE Hydro for the first time.

“We’re going for a slightly different approach as to how we’re going to play,” added McTrusty. “People are used to us being a loud rock band, but because the event means a lot us, we’re trying to show a thoughtful side and stripping everything back and play an acoustic set instead.

“This will probably be an introduction for a lot of people to Twin Atlantic and we want to be respectful of the event. As soon as we get the electric guitars on, we get hyped up and I start shouting to the crowd and that just doesn’t seem to match the occasion so it makes sense for us to play an acoustic set. Massively looking forward to it.”
