World No.1 will play both the Players Championship and AT&T National

Scandal-stricken world No.1 Tiger Woods has confirmed that he will play in both the prestigious Players Championship and the AT&T National – a move that brings his current schedule in line with that in previous years.

It is the second week running that the American, who usually waits until the last minute to confirm his appearance in events, has beaten entry deadlines by more than a week.

He confirmed his entry to the Quail Hollow Championship, which takes place from April 29, last week – eight days ahead of deadline, while his Players Championship admission has been verified nine days before the cut-off for the event starting on May 6.

While Woods is no longer the host of the AT&T National, where he will defend his title (pictured above) from July 1 at Aronomink outside Philadelphia, it still benefits his foundation.

The 34-year-old, who was rocked by revelations about his extra-marital affairs in November last year, made his comeback to golf after a five-month break at the Masters Tournament earlier this month where he finished fourth.

Speaking of his planned appearance at Sawgrass in May, the 2001 Players champion said on his website: “This is our event and it always attracts one of the best fields of the year. It’s a tournament everybody wants to win.”

Jay Monahan, the tournament’s vice president, echoed Woods’ delight at his entry, saying: “We are thrilled to add Tiger Woods to the field.

“We really appreciate the fact that he gave us advance notice so we can generate additional excitement here in the community.
