Star Letters in Issue 74

Dear Bunkered...

Having watched Henrik Stenson win the WGC-Accenture Matchplay, I am becoming more and more convinced that the European Tour is now the strongest Tour in the world bar none. The evidence can be garnered from both team and individual events. The Ryder Cup is currently a one-sided event. The US PGA Tour is dominated by one player every time he tees it up and it seems the only time that Tiger has a challenge is when he plays in a European event or comes up against world players in the WGC events.

We all know the rankings are heavily weighted in favour of the US PGA Tour and yet, despite this, many internationals
are to be found in the top 20. I get the impression that the
US PGA executives might realise that their insular days may
be harming competitive golf in the USA, hence the recent tip-toeing into Mexico.

Editor’s Reply: The only thing that has let Europe down in recent years is the ‘Majors’ but, after his wins in both Dubai and California, I have high hopes that Henrik Stenson could add one of the four big titles to his CV.
