THE search is on to find Scotland’s next Old Tom Morris, James Braid or Colin Montgomerie in a superb new competition for junior golfers. ‘Design Your Own Golf Hole’ is a free-to-enter competition for juniors aged 16 and under and offers the chance for youngsters to show off their golf hole design skills.

From an early age, kids just love being handed a blank sheet of paper and getting the chance to express themselves.

Well, that’s exactly what they are being asked to do in this competition, launched by bunkered, Scotland’s No.1 golf magazine.

It’s the chance of a lifetime to follow in the footsteps of some of the great Scottish golf course designers, the likes of Morris and Braid having created some of the finest layouts in the world while Monty is one of the top modern-day designers. Could your son or daughter be Scotland’s next great golf course designer? Well, you could find out if you get them to enter ‘Design Your Own Golf Hole’. And, if they come up with something that catches the eye of a top judging panel, then both you and your son or daughter will be in for a great golfing treat.

For, in addition to a great prize for each of the nine holes selected by the judging panel, the designers of those holes will also get a day out at Scotland’s newest golf course, the superb Carrick on Loch Lomond, along with a parent or guardian.

That alone makes this competition worth entering but just imagine how your son or daughter would feel if they were named as the overall winner of this fabulous competition.

How the competition will work?

What is this? It’s the Scottish Club Golfer and bunkered’s best-ever competition for juniors!

How is that? Because it’s the chance of a lifetime – and it’s FREE to enter.

Where the winners will be announced

The competition is being run in conjunction with bunkered, the Scottish Club Golfer’s sister publication, and the winning entries will be revealed in forthcoming issues of Scotland’s No.1 golf magazine in 2007. Our panel of judges will reveal their three favourite par-3s in issue 74 of bunkered followed by their three best par-4s (issue 75) and three top par-5s (issue 76). The overall winner will be announced during the prize winner’s golf day at The Carrick on Loch Lomond and full details will be published in an issue of bunkered later in the year.

The judging panel

COLIN MONTGOMERIE and some members of the European Golf Design team will be joined on the juding panel by Doug Carrick, the Canadian who designed The Carrick on Loch Lomond. They will also be joined by bunkered and Scottish Club Golfer team members.

The prize is for adults, too

YES, even though this is a competition for junior golfers, it could earn an adult a superb day out at The Carrick on Loch Lomond, venue for this year’s Scottish Women’s Open. That’s because the designers of the nine holes selected by our judging panel will all win a trip to The Carrick on Loch Lomond and they’ll get to take a parent of guardian with them as well.

Just for entering the competition, you will receive a bunkered baseball cap and, if you make the final nine, then you’ll win a brand-new junior driver. The overall winner of the competition, to be announced at the end of the day out at The Carrick on Loch Lomond, will get a brand-new set of golf clubs as well as six lessons with a PGA professional.
