As Scotland prepares to host the Ryder Cup this September, both teams will be welcomed in style at the SSE Hydro via a concert featuring entertainment from Jake Bugg all the way to Scottish opera.

The two teams assembled by captains Paul McGinley and Tom Watson will form the centrepiece of the concert as they are presented on stage to a capacity 12,000 audience. The event – taking place on September 24 – will see golf, music and the arts unite for one evening ahead of the match at Gleneagles.

Lead singer of Twin Atlantic, Sam McTrusty, is a keen golfer. The Scottish musician got his hands on the Ryder Cup trophy last weekend, and he couldn’t hide his excitement.

“I’ve just been holding the Ryder Cup,” he boasted. “Golf has been part of my life longer than music has and in more of a personal way.

“Golf has really taught me lots. Everything I’ve learned from golf I’ve then put into being in a band. You don’t stand on the tee and hit the ball straight 330 yards without practising for years before that.”

“This event offers something for everyone and presents a unique opportunity to sample the special atmosphere of the Ryder Cup.” – Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup director

“What’s really exciting about working on this show is the fusion of live music and culture,” she said.

“Plus I’m a huge sports fan too so this ticks all the boxes. It’s going to be a really special night.”

Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup director, agrees with Gavin, and believes the concert will be add to the atmosphere surrounding gone of golf’s biggest events.

“Bringing together the country’s proud golfing heritage with a variety of Scotland’s most celebrated musical and cultural artists, this event offers something for everyone and presents a unique opportunity to sample the special atmosphere of the Ryder Cup.”
