Described as one of the most scenic and challenging courses in the area, the nine-hole layout at Mearns Castle Golf Academy proves popular with members and visitors alike. Fairly open and great fun to play, the owners continue to heavily invest in the facility.

MILNATHORT
Nine holes £12
A traditional scenic golf course found in the Perth and Kinross countryside, it’s an undulating inland course with lush fairways and impressive greens. The club has added new tees to three of the holes to give more variety and, although accuracy is placed at a premium, it is a forgiving course with room for the odd wayward shot.

ROTHES
Nine holes £15
Opened in 1990, Rothes Golf Club is found in the heart of the Spey Valley on the famous Whisky Trail. Perfect for combining the two, it’s built on parkland and its fairways are tree-lined as the Spey Valley lies in the distance, offering fantastic panoramic views.

ST FILLANS
Nine holes £12
Found in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, St Fillans is a test for all golfers over flat terrain. A friend of bunkered magazine sampled the delights of St Fillans recently and said it was “one of the friendliest clubs” she had ever visted and vowed to make a swift return. In that sense, expect great views and a great welcome.

TAYNUILT
Nine holes £15
A challenging parkland course, Taynuilt is located close to the base of Ben Cruachan. Since it was officially opened by Sir Michael Bonallack in 1991, it has continues to impress and is now regarded as one of the best nine-holers in the region.

VOGRIE MUNICIPAL PARK
Nine holes £9.50
A municipal layout with wide fairways, it’s not the longest of golf courses. Strategic thinking is the best way to conquer this layout and the only real chance you’ll get to smash driver will be on the 405-yard par-4 sixth.
