Over the past few years, we’ve become rather famous at bunkered for our excellent competition prizes. The one that we put up for grabs for bunkered Fantasy Golf ’14, however, might just have been one of our best yet.

We arranged for the winner of our brilliant online comp to spend a week in the United Arab Emirates for the recent Dubai Desert Classic.

That lucky chap was Ian Trow, a 48-year-old who runs his own consultancy company. His team, ‘Meglew’, finished top of the pile ahead of thousands of other entrants, earning him a week in the sun courtesy of top holiday golf operator, GolfKings. As well as their flights and hotel, Ian and his pal, Andrew, also got season passes for the Dubai Desert Classic, won by Rory McIlroy, as well as golf on three top courses: Al Badia, Dubai Creek and Arabian Ranches. Suffice to say they had a brilliant time.

“It was a fantastic week. I wish I was still there, to be honest,” Ian told us after returning home. “We both thoroughly enjoyed it. It more than exceeded our expectations.

“We had a great flight out with Emirates Airlines and the hotel we stayed in was simply out of this world.

IAN’S FANTASY GOLF PRIZE IN PICS

“The tournament itself was fantastic and it was a real treat to see so many big names at real close quarters. We followed Rory for a few holes, which was brilliant, and we also took in the first shot of Stephen Gallacher’s title defence.

“As for the courses, Dubai Creek is one of the best I’ve ever played. Al Badia was really good, too, and whilst it wasn’t quite in the same league as the other two, Arabian Ranches was fun to play as well.”

Away from the course, Ian and Andrew also managed to fit in plenty of time for sightseeing too.

He added: “We checked out the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. We also spent a day at the Atlantis waterpark, hung out at the marina and did some shopping in the main shopping malls.

“All in all, it was an absolutely fantastic trip and a superb prize for winning bunkered Fantasy Golf ‘ 14. Thanks to everyone at the magazine and GolfKings for an unforgettable week.”
