LIV golf Tulsa preview

A stacked field will head from Los Angeles to Connecticut for the next stop on the PGA Tour after the US Open.

The Travelers Championship is one of the best attended events on the American circuit and this year’s edition promises to be the best tournament yet.

That is because the event has attracted a star-studded field – largely owing to its new elevated status as one of the PGA Tour’s designated events with a new huge record purse.

• Lowest major championship rounds in history

Golf’s leading stars Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler will all be teeing it up in New England in the week after the penultimate major championship of the season.

The trio will be joined by defending champion Xander Schauffele, who lifted his sixth PGA Tour title in this event last year.

Schauffele had capitalised on a mistake from fan favourite Sahith Theegala to claim a two-shot victory in 2022.

But the American will face fierce competition to defend his crown, with Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama and good friend Patrick Cantlay also committed to compete in the tournament.

It is the biggest annual sporting event hosted in Connecticut and is set to attract huge crowds once again as fans get a glimpse of the world’s best players in action.

Here is everything you need to know for the 2023 Travelers Championship…

The bunkered bet

Harris English 66/1

There is an elite field in Connecticut but former champion English is a man who will offer value in the betting markets. The American has four top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour this season, including a runner-up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He put on a ball-striking clinic in rounds one and two to leap into contention US Open and will take the positives from a T8 finish in his national championship.

And he has great memories of TPC River Highlands after his dramatic victory in 2021. He defeated Kramer Hickok in a marathon eight-hole play-off to seal his fourth tour win, and returns to the course with confidence high and his game in good shape.
