St Andrews has come out on top in a new survey by Booking.com showing the top 10 golfing destinations around the world.

The world’s No.1 accommodation site Booking.com has revealed its list of the best places to play golf, as endored by Booking.com guests, with the results based on recommendations by 1,000 golfers sharing their favourite locations.

Aired for the first time on Sky Sports during the Masters coverage, the latest Booking.Yeah advert celebrates the fact that you can book the accommodation of champions through the site, even if your game isn’t up to par.

Top 10 golf destinations, as endorsed by Booking.com

1. St Andrews, Scotland

As it is the Home of Golf, it’s no surprise it was recommended for golf by two out of every five Booking.com guests. There’s plenty of courses for you to choose from with layouts suitable for every level of golfer and there’s some fantastic accommodation, too. Whether it’s for a night, a weekend, or a week, St Andrews is definitely worth a visit.

2. San Miguel de Abona, Spain

On the Spanish island of Tenerife, this is ideal if you want to guarantee sunshine as you play some fantastic courses. With cheap flights available from airports throughout the UK, you can avoid paying through the nose to find this golfing paradise.

3. Vilamoura, Portugal

Home to some of Portugal’s finest courses, Vilamoura is perfect for golfers and non-golfers alike. One in four Booking.com guests recommended the area, with the Vilamoura Old course at Oceanico Golf a particular highlight. There is plenty of choice for the golf lover and away from the course there is a beautiful coastline to explore.

4. St George, USA

Recommended by one in every six of Booking.com guests, this is described as Utah’s golf capital. The weather is mild during winter making golf enjoyable all year round and all of the courses are set against red canyon walls and black lava rock. The Ledges Golf Course was recently ranked at No.5 in Golf Digest’s best new public courses with green fees of $75 and above.

5. Scottsdale, USA

Home of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, there are nearly 200 golf courses in the Scottsdale area offering something for everyone. The area experiences over 330 days sunshine a year ensuring you’ll be able to play no matter what time of year you take your trip.

6. Phoenix, USA

The largest city and capital of the state of Arizona, its boundaries may include the Scottsdale area, but there are plenty of other courses to enjoy. Its set-up is professional and its weather is first-class. A trip to Arizona has never been more appealing.

7. Myrtle Beach, USA

A long time favourite of UK golfers, Myrtle Beach in South Carolina has a great mix of private, semi-private and public courses for you to enjoy. In an area known as the ‘Grand Strand’, there are 60 courses in close proximity to each other that are all worthy of a visit. It may throw up some tough choices, but it’ll just keep you coming back for more.

8. Palm Springs, USA

One in 11 Booking.com guests recommended golf in the Palm Springs area in California. The area boasts numerous courses with great golfing pedigree and heritage, including the Pete Dye course at Mission Hills which has hosted events across some of the world’s best tours, including the LPGA and Senior PGA.

9. Portrush, Ireland

Touted as a potential future Open Championship venue, this is where Darren Clarke honed his skills as a youngster. Other cheerleaders for the area include major champions Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell who grew up close-by. Popular with Booking.com guests, too, you can follow in the footsteps on the major champions by playing golf in this fantastic area.

10. Hua Hin, Thailand

Boasting some of Asia’s premier courses, one in 16 Booking.com guests highlighted this as a place to go and enjoy a golf holiday. As one of Thailand’s oldest resorts, it is located just two hours from Bangkok and there are eight golf courses within 20 minutes drive of downtown Hua Hin.
