If the European Tour decides it is on the look-out for new venues on the continent that are worthy of hosting events on its increasingly international schedule, it could do worse than check out the magnificent Elea Golf Club in Cyprus.

Widely acknowledged as designer Sir Nick Faldo’s ‘Mediterranean Masterpiece’, it forms part of the prestigious Elea Estate, which commands a breathtaking location near to the ancient town of Paphos and just eight kilometres from Paphos International Airport.

Since opening four years ago, the 6,900-yard course has established itself as one of the Med’s true gems, finding favour with the thousands of golf-mad tourists who descend upon Cyprus each year.

It meanders through groves of mature carob and olive trees, while dramatic outcrops of weathered limestone contrast with the dark green fairways, which, on many holes, are fringed by Mediterranean grasses and an abundance of wild herbs and native flora.

It truly is a feast for all the senses and is complemented tastefully by a magnificent clubhouse, with underground car parking, and golf academy.

The estate itself is still in development, with luxurious villas and apartments, and a boutique hotel and spa, all part of the overall vision.

With flights flying from most main British international airports to Cyprus on a regular basis all year round, it is easy to get to, as well. Give it a look before its secret gets out.
