For the longest time, the words ‘golf’ and ‘fashion’ didn’t really go together.
How things have changed.
These days, looking good is a key part of playing good. And with so many trendy brands to choose from, you are truly spoilt for choice.
Of course, everybody has heard of the likes of Nike, Adidas, FootJoy, Under Armour and Travis Mathew.
But what about the other apparel brands that exist on the fringes of the game? Which of those should you be checking out?
Here are six up-and-comers we think you need to know about…
1. lululemon
Founded in Canada in 1998, lululemon has its roots in yoga but has since branched out successfully into the likes of cycling and running. Now, it’s turning its attention to golf and started 2024 by snapping up exciting young Australian Min Woo Lee to be its first male professional golfer brand ambassador.
2. Orlebar Brown
The brainchild of photographer Adam Brown, this London-based firm set out to bring a more tailored look and feel to beach and swimwear. Its range of polo shirts, chinos and Riviera shorts look just as good on the course.
3. Psycho Bunny
As the name implies, Psycho Bunny, pictured below, doesn’t exactly produce your typical country club fare. With its ‘made for mischief’ motto and eye-catching logo – imagine a cross between the Playboy bunny motif and a Jolly Roger and you’re not far off – it has made disrupting the sport a top priority.
4. Malbon
The people responsible for the very (very, very) baggy fit you see on Jason Day, Los Angeles-based Malbon is, if nothing else, eye-catching. Blending streetwear with golf, it is an unapologetically youth-focussed brand… even if some of its designs look like something from the PGA Tour c.1993.
5. Manors Golf
Established in 2020, Manors “aims to blend the style and sophistication of golf’s roots whilst creating apparel designed for future generations”. From patterned long-sleeve polos to T-shirts to wear at the range, they’ve got a bit of everything. Affordable, too.
6. No Members
Another 2020 start-up, No Members, pictured main, was the brainchild of two friends in LA who had nowhere to play at the height of the pandemic. Instead, they created a new golf fashion brand, drawing inspiration from the surfers and skaters who dominated Venice Beach in the 1970s. Very cool.
