It’s getting to that time of year where we update our golf wardrobes to get ready for summer. For many, that means getting some new golf shorts for warm days on the course. Here’s our guide to the best golf shorts you can get in 2024.

For the professionals, shorts are often not an option when the weather gets toasty. On the PGA Tour, shorts aren’t allowed in competition rounds, however on the DP World Tour, some particularly hot days have seen shorts allowed in competition.

On the LIV Golf League, shorts are allowed, and players are often seen wearing them on the course.

For us amateurs, it’s a no-brainer to get a pair of shorts on when the weather warms up. For that reason, we’ve compiled the best golf shorts you can buy in 2024.

Abacus Kildare
Shorts from the Swedish apparel giants that will sort you out for summer

PROS

  • Lightweight fabric makes these comfortable
  • Stylish but straightforward design for a versatile pair of shorts
  • Can certainly wear them away from the course

CONS

  • Would love some more colours
Available for £89.90 from Abacus

First on our alphabetical list is a great pair of shorts from Abacus. The Swedish apparel brand might be better associated with their waterproofs, but they also make great clothing for the warmer months. These shorts are a great example of that.

The Kildare range features shorts and trousers, and the shorts are perfect for warmer weather. These are made from a thin, woven polyster/spandex material, with a four-way stretch and Drycool technology. These are certainly suitable for wearing away from the course, as they’re a classic style that will look good with anything.

These are a premium quality design that will certainly enhance your summer wardrobe.

A floral pair of shorts from Callaway that are a joy to wear

PROS

  • Striking design looks great
  • Zip pocket is ideal for keeping a ball marker in
  • Very comfortable especially in warm weather

CONS

  • Others might prefer one of the block colour designs from Callaway
Available for £54.95 from Callaway

A more funky design for our next inclusion on the list. The Callaway Apparel Palm Print shorts are a lightweight and eye-catching design. If you really want that summer holiday feel, these are for you.

The headline tech in these shorts is Callaway’s Opti Dry technology. This tech helps to draw moisture away from the body, helping to keep you dry and cool on the course. As well as that, these have an active waistband which helps to ensure maximum range of motion and unrestricted movement on the course. The best part of these shorts, though, is the eye-catching design. Who doesn’t love some palm trees?

If you want a pair of golf shorts that will stand out on the course, while keeping you nice and cool, then these are a great option.

Castore Golf Shorts
Shorts from an up and coming golf wear brand that has burst onto the scene

PROS

  • The branding on these is cool and different
  • Athletic fit looks the part
  • The material is very high quality

CONS

  • Others have more vibrant designs
Available for £50 from Castore

An up and coming brand in the golf apparel world, Castore make some great kit. These shorts are an excellent option for the course this year.

These shorts are made with a stretch fabric, making them ideal for the summer months on the course. They’re also very lightweight, which helps to make them breathable, particularly in the warmer weather. We also love the branding on these, which is subtle, but enough to help you stand out in the crowd.

These would be a great addition to the wardrobe of any golfer looking for fresh apparel on the course this year.

PROS

  • Grippy waistband ensures your shirt will stay tucked in
  • Traditional look means these go with anything
  • Polyester fabric is great for the warmer weather

CONS

  • Hard to fault
Available for £55 from Farah

Farah is a golf brand making big moves in the golf apparel scene, and we’re big fans of their latest range, which includes the Jester shorts. The Jester range also features trousers, but if you want something for the warmer months, these are a great option.

These shorts feature a sleek design, with the back pockets branded with a contrasting colour. What we really like about these is the material, which certainly has a premium feel to it. It’s breathable without being too thin. Also, thanks to the block colours, these shorts will really go with anything else in your wardrobe.

Overall, these are a smart looking and versatile pair of shorts, perfect for the summer months.

  • Great array of colours to match your tastes
  • A relaxed fit so these are comfortable

CONS

  • As always, it's hard to fault FootJoy
Available for £59.99 from FootJoy

It wouldn’t be an apparel guide without the inclusion of a product from FootJoy. On this occasion, it’s their Performance shorts, which are, as you would expect from FootJoy, brilliant.

Subtle branding in these shorts means they look great, while the woven stretch twill fabric is comfortable and performs well in warm weather. FootJoy make excellent golf footwear, where a lot of thought goes into the tech, and these are no different. These have a waistband that will ensure your shirt stays tucked in as you play, keeping you smart on the course.

All in all, a great option for a pair of golf shorts in 2024.

  • Light and stretchy material for great levels of movement
  • Just look at them! A very cool design
  • OJ branding adds that extra premium touch

CONS

  • The look won't be for everyone

A premium apparel brand that specialises in golf wear, Oscar Jacobson make some top quality apparel and their golf shorts are no different. We’re fans of the Dunbar shorts, which are new to the 2024 line for OJ.

Firstly, these look great, with striking designs leaving you under no illusions that these are made by Oscar Jacobson. These shorts not only look great, but they’re very comfortable to wear, thanks to the highly breathable fabric, allowing great freedom of movement. As well as that, these have five pockets, with a small pouch for your ball marker to sit in for easy access.

The Oscar Jacobson Dunbar shorts are well worth consideration for your summer wardrobe.

The brand that kits out Cam Smith always has something cool and this is no different

PROS

  • Premium quality material
  • Slim fitting which looks great
  • Plenty colour options all of which look great

CONS

  • Embroidered Penguin logos won't be for everyone
Available for £55 from Penguin

The brand that kits of Cameron Smith has some top quality golf attire. These shorts are just one of several great pieces you can get from them.

Depending on how bold you want to be with colours, you can really get a pair of golf shorts that stand out from the crowd here. The embroidery of the Original Penguin logo is a great touch, with the pink and blue options in particular really highlighting this. These shorts are very fashionable, I’ve got the caviar colour, which helps the Penguin logo to show and means these can be paired with anything. The moisture wicking fabric means they’re exceptionally comfortable and the elastic waistband works well to keep your shirt tucked in.

All in all, some of the best golf shorts you can buy in 2024.

Stylish shorts from a brand who make great gear for the course

PROS

  • Great value for a quality product
  • Solid range of block colours
  • Puma branding is a nice touch that many will appreciate

CONS

  • Hard to fault
Available for £45 from Puma

Another brand that you can rely on for great apparel on the course is Puma. While they might have some outlandish clothing from time to time, these shorts are a great looking, but more subtle design.

The 101 shorts come in many different block colours. I particularly like the Ash Gray, which are nice and light, perfect for the warm weather. Not only are they light in colour, but also in weight, making them really comfortable to wear. These are another pair of shorts that feature a little pocket to store your ball marker in, so it doesn’t get lost amongst tees, pitchmark repairer and the rest of your essentials.

Overall, a good looking and well designed pair of shorts for the golf course and beyond.

Fantastic value for those looking for multiple pairs of golf shorts

PROS

  • Cracking value deal through American Golf
  • Great variety of colours to pick fro
  • Moisture wicking and quick drying fabric

CONS

  • There are more stylish options in the list, but they're not bad looking shorts
Available for £39.99 from Stromberg

If you’re looking for value when it comes to golf shorts, then Stromberg is a great option.

In particular, you can pick up two pairs of Sintra shorts for just £70 and with several colour choices, it’s well worth your money. These are made from 100% polyester, so they look smart with any outfit. As well as that, the fabric is moisture resistant, with quick drying fabric making them a versatile pair of golf shorts for 2024.

If you want a pair of quality golf shorts that will enhance any outfit on the course, then the Stromberg Sintra shorts are an excellent purchase.

Stuburt Urban II image
Stuburt Urban II
A great pair of shorts from a brand making big moves in the apparel scene

PROS

  • Comfortable 96% polyester material that works well in the heat
  • Great value for a quality pair of shorts
  • Two larger rear pockets for glove, scorecard, or yardage book

CONS

  • Again, there are more stylish options on offer
Available for £39.99 from Stuburt

Another pair of shorts that offer great value, the Stuburt Urban II shorts are well made and look smart on the course.

While there are other brands with more outlandish designs, the quality of these shorts can’t be questioned, as they’re made with a combination of polyester and elastane that makes them durable and comfortable. This is another pair of shorts that features a small inside pocket for your ball marker, while two back pockets are ideal for gloves and scorecards.

Stuburt are the providers of apparel for three LIV Golf teams – Torque, Fireballs and Stinger – and it’s no surprise, as they make quality golf gear.

Travis Mathew Tech Chino image
Travis Mathew Tech Chino
Stylish shorts from the people who fit Jon Rahm out in his apparel

PROS

  • Can certainly be worn away from the golf course
  • Look great and can enhance any outfit
  • Many will like the chino fabric

CONS

  • A touch on the expensive side
Available for £69.99 from Travis Mathew

You can be sure that you’re getting quality with Travis Mathew apparel and their shorts are no different. My colleague, James Tait, wore a pair of these in Barbados, a pretty good place to test out a pair of shorts.

As you can imagine, conditions were very warm out there, but the mix of polyester, cotton and spandex helped to keep him cool. These shorts come in an eight inch inseam, which is fairly short, but they aren’t to the point that you’re not getting coverage. Although these are made with the golf course in mind, they can certainly be worn away from it, meaning they’re definitely worth investing in for the summer.

A great pair of shorts that will last you a long time.

Credit: Under Armour
Under Armour Matchplay Tapered image
Under Armour Matchplay Tapered
Brilliant value shorts from a brand who make quality gear for the course

PROS

  • High quality fabric for a comfortable fit
  • Lightweight so they're ideal for warm conditions
  • Subtle UA branding is appealing

CONS

  • Some other brands have more bold designs
Available for £45 from Under Armour

Last but not least, it’s an entry from Under Armour with their Matchplay Tapered shorts. As you would expect from the brand that kits out Jordan Spieth, these shorts are excellent.

While Under Armour might be better known for their waterproof kit, these shorts are perfect for when the weather is much more pleasant. They’re designed to flex as your body moves and the four-way stretch fabric certainly helps to do that. These are, as Under Armour describe them, a streamlined fit, meaning they’ll be a snug, comfortable and stylish fit on the course.

Another great option in this list of the best golf shorts of 2024.
